NEW ADR CLUB RACE ANNOUNCEMENT – THE RUN FOR YOUR LIFE ENDURANCE CHALLENGE

The Ashtabula Distance Runners Club Board of Directors is pleased to announce the creation of a new ADR Club race.

The Run for Your Life Endurance Challenge will be held Sunday October 20, 2024, at 6 PM at the Donahue Center, 2924 Donahue Drive in Ashtabula Township.

This event is open to the public and will also complete the training by participants who are part of ADR’s Run for Your Life fall program.

This is a free race for 2024 ADR members, $10 for non-members. Registration is available only in-person on the day of the event from 5 pm to 5:45 pm. We will have waiver forms on hand.

The course is (about) a 0.45-mile lap and the idea is to see how many laps you can complete in 30 minutes. Walking is permitted. After the start, we will let you know what the time is at each lap completed and will make an announcement when the 30 minutes is done.

No awards, no premium, no overall or age group places. This is meant to be a fun race to participate in and have fellowship while encouraging our Run for Your Life participants too!

All ADR members who complete the Run for Your Life Endurance Challenge – meaning you are walking and/or running when the 30 minutes are done – will receive 8 Grand Prix points. The race also counts toward completing a race in the 2024 ADR Grand Prix Series.

Non Club members – $10 cash or checks only payable to Ashtabula Distance Runners Club. Please try to have exact change if possible, if paying cash.

If you’re not an ADR member, sign up now for 2024 ADR Membership for $20 ($25 for family membership) and your entry in the Run for Your Life Endurance Race is free.

Membership also includes discounts for the Bridge 2 Bridge Half Marathon and 5K and the Jingle Bell 3 Mile races later this year.

2024 ADR Membership is available at: http://ashtabuladistancerunners.org/membership/

Hope to see you there!

ADR’s Run for Your Life spring program beginning May 14 – Volunteers Needed

The Ashtabula Distance Runners Board is pleased to announce the start of the sixth year of the ADR-sponsored community running program named “Run for Your Life” to use running to help men and women in recovery from chemical dependence.

The spring season of the 2024 Run for Your Life program begins Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00 pm.

Run for Your Life involves participants as assisted through the Lake Area Recovery Center (LARC) and staying at Turning Point and New Beginnings. The program consists of men and women group runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 6:00 at the Donohue Center complex.

ADR is looking for volunteers to help lead the group runs. Can you help? If you are interested, and we hope you are, please contact John Hutchison via Facebook, or email at hutchjohn33@yahoo.com so we can get you on the schedule. You can help once a week or more or whatever fits your schedule.

During each session, the group runs are split into two groups during which time men participants run with at least two men volunteer leaders and women participants run with at least two women volunteer leaders. We complete laps that are almost a half mile each around the Donohue Center complex.

Each workout lasts for roughly 30 minutes, using a C25K app on mobile devices for guidance, with mostly walking in the beginning of the program and gradually replacing walking with some running.

Participants will complete the program Saturday June 8 with the 2 Mile race at the Greenway Trail.

If you’ve been looking for a way for running to help you give back to others and make a difference, this is your opportunity. We could use your help to continue this program!

ADR ANNOUNCES CROSS COUNTRY, TRACK SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNERS FOR 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

The Ashtabula Distance Runners Club (ADR) is pleased to announce the awarding of four $500 college scholarships totaling $2,000 to Ashtabula County high school seniors who participated in cross country or track during the 2021-2022 school year.

The ADR Board of Directors received applications from 11 students who were seniors during the 2021-2022 cross country and track seasons.

Scholarships winners are chosen based on several factors involving a student’s academic and athletic accomplishments along with service within their school and community.

“We were pleased to have many great candidates to consider for scholarships,” said John Hutchison, ADR Board President. “These awards will help these outstanding students pursue their academic dreams at the next level of their education. We wish all the candidates who applied the best and look forward to them contributing to the community.”

The ADR Board of Directors selected Chase Carpenter of Conneaut for boys track, Joshua Diehl of Jefferson for boys cross country, Allison Wintz of Jefferson for girls cross country, and Renee Tetlow of Geneva for girls track.

Wintz completed her high school career with a 4.0-grade point average and plans to attend Cleveland State University this fall. Tetlow finished with a 4.4-grade point average and will attend Allegheny College.

During the 2022 Track season, Carpenter qualified for the regional meet twice in the 400-meter run. Diehl qualified for the regional meet during the 2021 Cross Country season.

During her career, Wintz twice qualified for the regional meet and was a state qualifier her freshman year in cross country. Tetlow was a state qualifier for indoor track and part of a state championship 4 x 400 relay indoor relay during her sophomore season. She also qualified in the regional outdoor meet for the 800-meter run and 4 x 800-meter relay during high school.
