A few announcements and updates stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic:

The ADR Board is pleased to announce a partnership with the Coronapocalypse Virtual Race, hosted by Stasny Road Racing. This is a FREE event that will be non-scored and available to complete starting May 16 through June 6. This event has four distance options and completing this event will be counted as a participation race only (meaning no Grand Prix points awarded) as part of the ADR 2020 Grand Prix Series. Proceeds from any online donations from this event will benefit ADR’s Ashtabula County Track and Field Program.

The Ashtabula Greenway Trail 10K & 2 Mile, originally to be held on June 13, has been converted to a virtual race. The Ashtabula Green Way Trail 10K and 2 Mile Virtual Races will be conducted on your own anytime from June 13 through June 21. We are asking you to please complete your 10K or 2 Mile somewhere on the Greenway Trail as this is a course without traffic and a mostly flat place to complete your run.

Registration fee for the Ashtabula Greenway Trail 10K and 2 Mile Virtual Races: The 10K fee is $20. The 2 Mile is $15. This is an Ashtabula Distance Runners Club (ADR) Event. Club members receive $5 off registration fee. A code for 2020 ADR Members only will be posted on the 2020 ADR Members private Facebook page. If you are not on Facebook, please email the club at ashtabuladistancerunners@gmail.com to receive your discount code. Runners age 14 and younger are $5 (no further discount) if a parent is also signed up to run in this event. Any race profits will go to ADR Club to help fund scholarships, provide seed money for future races, the annual awards banquet, and other programs affiliated with ADR.

Overall and ADR Grand Prix scoring for 10K and 2 Mile Virtual races: Please be honest when reporting your times! Overall results for the Ashtabula Greenway Trail 10K and 2 Mile Virtual Races will be posted online as per usual on the ADR website. For 2020 ADR Members only, scoring for the 2020 Grand Prix will be compiled offline as follows: Top 6 overall male and female and top 5 in age group categories involving 2020 ADR Members only: 14 & younger, 15–19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and older. With a finishing time, additional points are also awarded to each runner per mile raced regardless of placement in the race. So either you do the 10K and get six (6) Grand Prix points or you get two (2) Grand Prix points for completing the 2 Mile race. Not both.

Lastly, the Memorial Day-Lift Bridge 5K and the Run for Kids 5K races have been cancelled.

Athletic Directors, Cross Country Coaches and senior class Cross Country runners who competed in the fall of 2019 for school districts in Ashtabula County:

The Ashtabula Distance Runners (ADR) Club is still accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors, male and female, in Ashtabula County who competed in the sport of cross country in the fall of 2019.

Please download the application if interested and complete all the requirements as asked by May 15.

If you have registered for this event already, you do not need to register again to participate in the Shamrock event. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we sincerely thank you for your understanding. In the meantime, registration will remain open.

Also please note the 2020 Grand Prix schedule may continue to change over the coming weeks as developments occur due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.  Please check back periodically for any updates.

We also will conduct a voluntary fun run on Saturday March 14 at 9 a.m. at Point Park in Ashtabula. So come on out and don’t miss a day to run with your ADR friends! Some members of the ADR Board will be there a little bit early and we will pass out the 2020 ADR membership gifts that arrived today. Check out these cool hats! These gifts will go to those who signed up for individual memberships in 2020 and one per family membership. You can also sign up for 2020 ADR membership in person on Saturday if you meet up with us. Plus, you’ll get a hat! After running, we’ll head down to Harbor Perk for some coffee, join us there if you’re not able to come to Point Park or run with us.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Shamrock 2 Mile & 1/2 Mile Kids Race on Saturday March 14 has a change in the starting and finishing location. Due to Kent State University cancelling all events on campus property because of precautions regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ashtabula Distance Runners Club Board is moving the start and finish of the Shamrock race from Kent State University Ashtabula Campus to the ASHTABULA ARTS CENTER at 2928 W. 13th St, Ashtabula, located a just short bit down the road to the east of the KSU campus.

There is plenty of parking at the Arts Center and the bathrooms will be open inside the facility for runners to use. For the 2 Mile Race, the course will be on the same stretch of road as in past years with just a slight difference. Runners will start at the Art Center, proceed east on W. 13th Street, turn around at Ohio Avenue (the same as in previous years), then return west on W. 13th St. and head toward the KSU campus, where there will be a new turnaround (at the former finish line area) to head back east on W. 13th St. to finish at the Arts Center.

The Ashtabula Distance Runners Club Board sincerely appreciates the Ashtabula Arts Center and Director Meeghan Humphrey for graciously offering the Arts Center to be used as an alternative location for this race on very short notice.

We hope to see you Saturday morning at the Ashtabula Arts Center for the Shamrock 2 Mile and ½ Mile Kids Race. A reminder to get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day by dressing in festive holiday attire! Best dressed holiday attire will receive one (1) free entry into an ADR 5K club race.

On behalf of ADR and NERC, we wanted to let you know that SPIRE did not honor the original agreement from last year and came back with a new proposal that was too expensive for both clubs, had no fixed cost, contained too many schedule variables and was not beneficial to our club members despite all attempts on behalf of ADR and NERC to negotiate a deal in good faith.

Unfortunately with that said, NERC and ADR will not be entering into a contract this year with SPIRE to conduct the indoor track workouts.

Hi everyone, we wanted to let you know there was a late change in available times for the SPIRE workouts and we’re trying to work through and find mutually acceptable days and times. So there will not be a session this Wednesday night Jan. 15. We will update when we have further information.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The SPIRE workouts will start this Wednesday Jan. 8 at 7 pm at SPIRE. Other dates are Jan. 15, 29, Feb. 5, 12 and 26.
